It Takes 5 Billion Years To See Every Planet In ‘No Man’s Sky’

No Man's SkyHello Games’ No Man’s Sky has been receiving quite a bit of hype ever since it was announced due to its unique gameplay and visuals. In the game you have the ability to explore the near-infinite bounds of space, with each planet being unique from the last.

Every game has to have a limit, right? Well, sort of. In an interview with IGN, Hello Studios’ co-founder Sean Murray said that it would take approximately 5 billion years to see everything in the game.

Yup, that’s a pretty long time.

No Man’s Sky is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and PC and is set to be released sometime next year.

Don't Expect Uncharted 4 To Take Any Influence From The Last Of Us

Next year, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will debut for the PlayStation 4 and usher in one of Sony’s most beloved franchises on a next-gen console. The game is being helmed by Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann, who were both responsible for The Last Of Us, but don’t expect them to be bringing any themes from that game over to the Uncharted series.

Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells said the following to Eurogamer:

 “Uncharted is a completely different franchise, and appeals to its audience for completely different reasons.”

He goes on to discuss the two very different tones that each game has:

“I don’t think The Last of Us marks a new direction in tone that all of our future games are going to take on. We’d alienate a lot of our Uncharted fans. We want to keep it a light-hearted romp. I think from a technical standpoint we’ve learnt some things from the Last of Us that will feed into Uncharted – in fact it strengthens our desire to keep them distinct.”

I’m very glad to hear that Uncharted will be keeping with the light-hearted tone that has come before. After the amazing response to The Last of Us and the pretty gloomy teaser that Sony showed at E3, it was starting to look like things were heading to dark territories. Uncharted remains my favorite series that Sony has going, so let’s keep what makes it great intact.

Bungie Reveals Destiny Trophy / Achievement List Via Weekly Update

For those who simply cannot wait to find out what trophies / achievements they will be sinking countless hours towards getting, Bungie has gone ahead and revealed the full list via the new Weekly Update on their website.

The game will have 40 trophies / achievements across all platforms, and appear to be pretty standard fare as far as trophy / achievements go. Some of them ask the player to do things like kill 5 enemies in 3 seconds, while others require you to achieve the maximum crucible score.

Destiny is being developed by Bungie for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One and will be released on September 9th, 2014.

PlayStation Now Pricing Details Hinted At With Beta Update

PlayStation Now is Sony’s upcoming game streaming service, which will allow you to pick from a huge library of games and steam then on your console without a disc or download. However, it was a little unclear regarding how all of this would work, but now the recent beta update may have pulled the proverbial curtain.

According to PS4 Daily, games will be rentals that range anywhere from $2.99 to $29.99, with rental periods being anywhere from 4 hours to 90 days.

Honestly, if these are the official prices then I think Sony is really dropping the ball with this service. If they think that people will fork over that kind of money for digital rentals then they have another thing coming. People can get games for much cheaper prices for physical copies, so I don’t see where they get off charging up to $29.99. I’d much rather have a subscription service like Netflix then this crap.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection (PlayStation Vita) Review – Oh Dear Lord…

Throughout my experience as a gamer and especially a game writer I have never had to deal with something like Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. It’s essentially a game of stats, where you must make the right decisions in order to get the optimum stat increases with each given opportunity. Done the right way, this could be a really zany and funny type of game along the lines of the Nintendo DS’s Elite Beat Agents. Unfortunately, this game was not done the right way.

The concept of Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection is simple (and strange): you are a student who is just about to embark on a summer vacation that will be filled with nothing but gaming when you are suddenly summoned to a world called Gameindustri (clever) by 4 goddess-like Console Patron Units (CPUs). These 4 CPUs rule the realm of Gameindustri and each represent one of today’s major consoles, though they are in a bit of deep water. An idol group called MOB48 has passed the CPUs and taken the most shares of Gameindustri, as a result. So, the goddesses want to become idols with your help to win back the shares and return everything back to normal. Got that?

The 4 ladies you have to deal with all feature firm-yet-super-naive personalities as there is no question in their minds that they are going to be pop idols with your help. I ended up with Vert as my “idol” and her character ended up being someone who was a confident and hard worker that had a hardcore gaming attitude. As a result, I had to make sure that she stayed focused on her work and still had the amount of time she wanted to go on gaming marathons. This is the part of the game that I liked the most, because the characters (for the most part) are pretty likable and it’s entertaining to see what they have to say.

Producing Perfection

Unfortunately, the majority of the game has you performing the same actions over and over again which makes everything very tedious. As the producer you have the the following options to perform with your idol: work, lesson, relax, move and concert. Work increases your fanbase while lesson increases personal stats like vocals and rhythm. When you have done too much working and stress has built up you need to make sure that you choose the relax option to bring those stress levels down, as high stress levels result in diminished returns in both work and lessons. Move allows you to relocate to one of the other Gameindustri nations in order to reach new audiences, which brings up new scenarios for the characters to go through. All of these scenarios are implied, however, as you don’t get much more than a quick bit of dialogue showing that the event took place.

The most hands-on option is concert, in which you actually witness your idol performing a song. You get to chose the stage, what your idol wears and stage effects that all effect the audiences engagement in the show. However, your main job is to control the camera and come up with dynamic camera angles for the audience, but the game’s registration capabilities seem really limited in this area. Most of the time I just kind of moved the camera angle around wildly like a nut job and it resulted in me doing better than I did when I was actually trying to get good angles. Thus, the one aspect of the game that has true gameplay is broken.

And you must repeat this process day in and day out to increase your idol’s stats and rise her to the top of the charts before 180 in-game days pass. A day passes after one action has taken place, so the days pass rather quickly. I had no problems getting my idol to the top of the charts way before the 180 days passed, though it still felt like a complete grind because of the lack of depth in these events. You’re basically just selecting one of the 5 options, checking out which stats go up and repeating that process… over and over and over again.

Producing Perfection

Apart from the main mode you also have a Viewer Mode, which is perhaps the most weird part of the game. You are just given a screen of an idol of your choosing that you can touch and watch them react in a bunch of random and disturbing ways. It’s one of those things where you really just kind of scratch your head wondering why it’s in the game at all. I guess in a game that has literally no gameplay engagement something like this can pass as an actual “mode”, but on planet Earth this is completely lame.

Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection can offer slight entertainment in very short bursts, but playing the game any longer than that results in extreme frustration and boredom. There is no true interactive gameplay to speak of and the little that you actually do control must be done far too many times. The game’s likable characters make some of this tedium easier to swallow, but for the most part this is a game that should be avoided by just about everyone.

The Order: 1886

News Judgment… The Order: 1886 Delayed To Early 2015

There had been some rumors going around about the potential of Ready At Dawn’s PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886, and now it seems those rumors are completely true.

The news broke on a PlayStation blog post which said the following:

As we look to bring this experience to the players, we have decided to spend some extra time to deliver on the promise we made when we first introduced the game. As such, you can expect The Order: 1886 to come exclusively to the PlayStation 4 in early 2015.

My Judgment:

You know what… this is actually really good news and a smart move by Ready At Dawn. When many people got to try out the game earlier this year, it seemed like the overall consensus was that people were left unimpressed. It sounds like Ready At Dawn are aware of that, and instead of releasing a game that isn’t going to live up to its potential they are going to work on making it better.

Naughty Dog Developing "Two Brand New Experiences"

Naughty Dog are pretty much the best developers around right now, bringing us both the Uncharted series and the fantastic The Last of Us. We know that both a remaster of The Last of Us and new entry in the Uncharted series are in development, but what we didn’t know is that they are working on two other things that are completely unrelated to those games.

Creative director Neil Druckmann spoke with EDGE and said the following about current projects:

“We’re working on this re-release, but at the same time we’re working on two other brand-new experiences.”

What these brand new experiences are is anyone’s guess, but you can bet that Naughty Dog is going to be having all eyes on them at this year’s E3.
